This week’s transactions have primarily focused on veteran teams hoping to contend for a championship, rather than true contenders. This marks the first significant mid-season enhancement by Cleveland this season as they aim to convert their current best record in the Eastern Conference into deeper playoff success.
The addition of Hunter is particularly notable given his experience despite only having played in 16 postseason games so far. His combination of three-point shooting and defensive capabilities makes him well-suited for the challenges of playoffs. As a strong individual defender, he can provide more shot creation alongside Cleveland's four All-Star players compared to other wing options currently available.
This season has been pivotal for Hunter; he's averaging an impressive 19 points per game—3.4 points higher than his previous career-best—and developed into a much-improved and aggressive three-point shooter with an average of 6.7 attempts per game at a commendable rate of 39%. This shift reflects how he has replaced many long two-pointers from earlier seasons with high-value threes; last year, he took nearly equal amounts (212) between paint-area twos and threes (286), while this year sees him launching almost double the amount of three-pointers (247 vs. just 101 inside). Consequently, his effective field goal percentage has risen significantly from 56.3% to an impressive level around over sixty percent.
